About Christina Lopp Art
Christina Lopp (b. 1968) is a California-born, self-taught artist and designer who has lived in Tokyo since 2017. Drawn deeply into Japanese artistic traditions, she has studied shodō, sumie, nihonga, and mokuhanga —practices that inform her distinctive fusion of painting and collage.
Working in watercolor, acrylic, sumi ink, and beeswax, Lopp’s work explores a rich dialogue between cultures. Themes of communication, connection, mystery, femininity, and play animate her works, shaped by the experience of navigating a foreign world with openness and intention.
Inspired by the quiet spirit of Japanese kokeshi dolls, she introduces these feminine figures as recurring motifs—icons of memory, care, and continuity. Their presence draws attention to stories often overlooked, asking what it means to be seen, held, and remembered.
“I’m interested in how the presence of women builds—how something small, made large, and repeated, can become undeniable.” - Christina Lopp
Since 2021, Lopp has participated in six group exhibitions across Tokyo. Too Many To Ignore, occurring in Hiroshige Gallery in Ebisu, Tokyo in May 2026 was her first solo exhibition.
